Bow is a small village
set in Mid Devon near to the beautiful moorland area of Dartmoor. It
boasts a
thriving
community with all the local
amenities one would expect in a village this size.
The village is a growing community with three fairly recent housing estates,
and one currently being built ensuring this is an evolving community
and not a dying one. The school and the medical centre are both new -
a reflection
upon the viable nature of the village.
Intrinsic to any community is the core of it’s young, this is an
area well provided for in the village. For 5 - 11 year olds Bow County
Primary
School provides a caring, educational springboard for senior school in
Crediton, while
at the younger end of the age range Bow Playgroup and toddler group help
youngsters make those important first few steps of independence into
the world. Bow Playgroup
has been running for over 30 years. Throughout this time there has been
close co-operation between the staff, committee and parents. The children
enjoy
a wide range of
activities including sand and water play, a book corner, art and craft
table and even a chance to run outside in the safe garden area. Midway
through
each session, children stop for circle time - a chance to sit down, a
healthy snack,
then songs and stories. Bow Playgroup provides an excellent introduction
to peer group play and concepts, which are further developed in 4+ sessions
and
later Bow School.
We are very proud to confirm Bow Playgroup successfully became fully
Accredited in 2002/3 which confirms our high standards. Only a minority
of Playgroups
have gained such an award. Our headed paper is now noted accordingly
with a red ‘A’. We acheived Reaccreditation in November 2005.

PREMISES
The Playgroup sessions are held in Bow Village Hall. The premises are secured
at each session to keep children safe and prevent children leaving the premises.
Staff have attended a Basic Health and Safety Training Course and a Risk
Assessment is undertaken annually.
The large hall is divided up by providing a wide range of equipment and stimulating
learning through play opportunities for children to enjoy.
The garden area adjacent to the hall is used all year around if weather allows.
This area is enclosed by fencing and gates to ensure the children’s safety.
